Product and use
What is a micro-incinerator and what is it used for?
A micro-incinerator is a benchtop device that sterilizes microbiology instruments such as inoculation loops and needles electrically, without an open flame. The instrument is sterilized in a few seconds inside a heated tube.
How is it different from a Bunsen burner?
A Bunsen burner runs on gas and produces an open flame. A micro-incinerator runs on electricity and sterilizes inside a quartz tube. No gas connection is needed and aerosol formation is prevented.
How long does sterilization take?
Loops and needles are sterilized in approximately 2–4 seconds.
Can it be used in a biosafety cabinet?
Yes. Unlike an open-flame burner, it does not disturb the airflow inside the cabinet and does not damage the cabinet filter.
Can I use it while wearing gloves?
Yes. The device is designed for comfortable use with gloves.
Technical information
What voltage does it run on?
It runs on a 230 V mains supply. An internal transformer steps the voltage down to 12 V, and the heating section operates at 12 V.
What size is the quartz tube?
The quartz tube has a diameter of 22 mm and a length of 100 mm.
What else can I sterilize besides loops?
Besides loops and needles, you can sterilize the mouths of culture tubes and use it for slide fixation.
Is a bacti-cinerator the same thing?
Bacti-cinerator is a generic name for this class of device, which is also sold as an electric or infrared loop sterilizer. It describes a device that sterilizes loops and needles in an electrically heated tube. The Sirius micro-incinerator belongs to this class.
Spare parts and purchasing
Who replaces the spare parts?
We do, as the manufacturer, either on site or after you send the device to us. The device runs on mains voltage; part replacement is carried out by the manufacturer. Submit a spare parts request or contact us.
Do you supply spare parts?
Yes. As the manufacturer, we supply and replace the heating element block, fan, transformer, quartz tube and all other parts.
Do you service other brands?
Yes, we service all brands and models. Just enter the brand and model of your device in the service form.
How long is the warranty?
The Sirius micro-incinerator comes with a 2-year warranty.
